God’s omnipotence is in no sense a pantheistic attribute omnipotence is not automatic but willful. It may never be said that He is a slave of His own omnipotence: men live in a personal not a deterministic system, and therefore they have freedom to act as individuals because He has restraint. God has power over His power which is always under His wise and holy will. One cannot hold that He exercises all of His power all the time and in every place ( see Omnipresence). God suffers no internal or external compulsion. The power of God implies the power of self-limitation. The question as to how sin entered into the world is not a question of His omnipotence as much as it is a means of illustrating how an allpowerful God can create a system in which sin is possible and at the same time, because of His omnipotence, make the wrath of man to serve Him. He cannot pretend that what has happened has not happened. More to the point, and more personally, He can in no way contradict His own nature by sinning or dying. Intellectual tricks, raising questions as to whether God can draw a shorter than a straight line between two points or make a weight so heavy that He Himself cannot lift it, do not belong in any serious discussion of omnipotence. There is no nonsense in the omnipotence as there is no nonsense in God: He cannot do that which is self-contradictory or contradictory to His own nature, because His omnipotence is of His own essence, and He is all-Being out of which all existence must arise. It is well to observe that omnipotence in God does not imply the power to do those things which in no way can be thought of as objects of power. There is nothing accidental or incidental, and the thought of “omnipotence” merges easily into “omnipresence” and “omniscience.” Nothing evades God’s omnipotence ( Dan 4:35 Amos 9:2, 3) and even the most minute things such as the falling sparrow or the hairs of our head are under His personal control ( Matt 10:30 Luke 12:7). In God resides the power to produce and control everything that comes to pass. It is known in concrete acts, acts indeed of overreaching and overpowering inclusiveness: in creation, nature, history, providence, and redemption. One may observe, therefore, the definition of omnipotence by its manifestations. He even has the power to create new things after His first creation ( Matt 3:9 Rom 4:17), according to His pleasure, and nothing is impossible to Him ( Gen 18:14). God is described as performing natural wonders ( Gen 1:1-3 Isa 44:24 Heb 1:3) and spiritual wonders ( 2 Cor 4:6 Eph 1:9 3:20). That the Bible does not use the abstract term, is simply characteristic of Biblical language and thought forms, for in the “mighty acts” themselves is explicitly evident, for all who accept such acts as “revelatory,” what might be more calmly or academically expressed in a word like omnipotence. always is rendered “Almighty.” The concept, however, is a necessary implication from God’s mighty acts which show no limits in prestige (over other gods, for example), power, or extent. Bible, nor is there any noun corresponding to it in the original Gr.

Yes, you can apply sunscreen to babies younger than 6 months old, but you'll want to use it in minimal quantities. Can babies under 6 months wear sunscreen? Mineral sunscreen is especially effective on sensitive parts of the body, such as nose, cheeks, tops of the ears and shoulders, the AAP notes, because it acts as a better barrier against the sun.įor these reasons, each of the baby sunscreens we recommend ahead are broad spectrum to protect against UVA and UVB rays and made of a mineral-based formula to provide optimal protection. They're also usually free from chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which we'll address later. Perman, M.D., a pediatric dermatologist at the University of Philadelphia. Unlike chemical sunscreen, mineral sunscreens stay on the surface of the skin and aren't absorbed into the body, explains Marissa J. You'll likely also want to look for a mineral sunscreen, also known as physical sunscreen, which includes titanium dioxide or zinc oxide as the active ingredient. When shopping for baby sunblock, look for a “broad spectrum" formula - that means it will protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Finally, we've included the best baby sunscreens, with suggestions from experts, What to Expect editors and parents. "You can keep them in a shade tent, under an umbrella and in sun-protective clothing."Īhead, we've covered some of the most common questions about applying baby sunscreen, plus factors to consider when deciding which one to purchase. "Unless you have a child way ahead of their developmental landmarks, they aren't mobile and running around," notes Bernard Cohen, M.D., professor of pediatric dermatology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. While it might sound like a challenge to keep babies out of the direct sun for the first six months, it'll be easier than you think. For babies older than 6 months, you should apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more all over their body. Use sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30, as the AAD recommends, to the face, back of the hands and tops of the feet. Although you should minimize sunscreen use on children under 6 months, it's okay to apply a small amount when you can't keep baby out of the sun, says the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). They should also be dressed in protective clothing, such as lightweight items that protect their entire arms and legs, plus a hat. When it comes to using sunscreen for babies, especially newborns, the guidelines are different from what's recommended for adults - and it's important to know how to keep baby protected in the sun and the best baby sunscreen.īabies under 6 months should generally be kept in the shade and out of direct sunlight, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). No, your Astropad Studio account registration allows you to log into Astropad Studio from any iPad. I suggest you download the free trial of Studio, or both, and decide.About your Astropad Studio account Is my Studio account the same as my Apple ID? If you’re using other programs, you might be okay with Standard, which also allows you to use the iPad Pro. If you’re a frequent use of Astropad with Photoshop, Illustrator, or Clip Studio Paint, I think Studio is worth the extra investment. I found Astropad Studio works as advertised. The monthly update assures you’ll be getting the latest features as soon as they come out. I dislike the idea of subscription-based software, but it’s the world we live in. You get a monthly update with the subscription. Is it worth the extra cost to invest in Astropad Studio over Astropad Standard? The yearly fee right now is about $65, or you can pay monthly and pay a bit more. But the release of Astropad Studio certainly brings a high level of professionalism to the Astropad workflow.įor Windows users, there’s still Duet Display. Some might find it doesn’t completely replace a Cintiq, because a Cintiq has that toothy texture, and lets you customize more programs. But if you want to see your work on a bigger screen, it does get closer to a Cintiq or other graphics tablet. If you’d rather just draw on the iPad Pro alone, Astropad isn’t necessary. (Let’s just hope they don’t keep redoing parts of the UI, a habit that gets to me with Adobe stuff.) In a way I like to know what to expect from an app–but this is ready to deliver a lot even if we don’t know exactly what’s in store. Not sure we can expect such dramatic moves every month, but that’s OK. What kind of monthly updates can we expect? According to Astropad, in the works are functions such as a personalized pressure curve. Seeing art on a big screen not only lets you see any errors you might have made when drawing, and focus on parts individually. But when doing art with a lot of detail, it really helps to see it on a big screen. I’m not crazy about two screens, and frankly I prefer to just draw on one. You might zoom in on the iPad Pro to work, then zoom out to see the result. But there are ways of setting the amount of screen to use. Pressing and holding it only brought up the choice of full screen or 100%. You can move the ring around, press on or hold. Using a Magic Gesture while taking a photo of using it (awkward!) One nice thing is that you can use the iPad Pro’s USB to connect it to the Mac, instead of Wi-fi, if you’re having Wi-fi issues like I have been lately and can’t get them on the same network. All you have to do get both the Mac and iPad Pro app–the Mac app from the Astropad site, and the iPad Pro app from the App Store. Installing both applications is simple, as is the setup. If you don’t want to customize, you can use the built-in ones, such as calling up the eraser tool with your finger and the control ring. You can customize program shortcuts in the supported programs, as well as customizing Magic Gestures, which are Pencil/finger combos. Together with GPU acceleration and velocity control, there’s excellent image quality and responsiveness. Studio has “Liquid Extreme,” which offers a much faster bitrate of 60 frames per second, so less lag. Whereas Standard is a onetime purchase, Studio is a yearly or monthly fee, and has monthly updates. Astropad Studio is only for iPad Pro with Apple Pencil, whereas Standard is for iPad2 and up. It’s subscription-based, unlike Astropad Standard, which is still available. Update, July 2017: Astropad Standard and Studio both work with the new 10.5″ iPad.Īstropad has just released a new product specifically for use with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. First, it’s what I expect-all clicked links other than should open in Brave. I want those links to open in my default Web browser-Brave at the moment-for two reasons. Send external links to my default Web browser: I frequently click links in articles to read them or test that they go to the right place.(It very well may open in the wrong window, but that’s a trivial annoyance.) SSBs can’t control URL destinations on their own, of course, but there are Mac utilities that can-I’ve tested BrowserFairy and Choosy and will discuss them more at the end. Receive incoming Google Docs links: When I click a URL in Slack or Trello for TidBITS, or in Mimestream or Discourse for FLRC, I want it to open in a new tab in my Google Docs app.The SSB thus needs to allow both and to co-exist in the same app. Multiple domain support: I always keep the Google Drive Web app open as the first tab in each of those windows, and I double-click documents in Google Drive to open them in new tabs.I always keep one window open for TidBITS documents and another for FLRC documents each has between 3 and 20 open tabs at any one time. Window and tab support: I work on a lot of documents, partly while juggling multiple TidBITS articles, but even more so in my role as president of the Finger Lakes Runners Club, which relies heavily on Google Docs and Google Sheets for administration, collaboration, and recordkeeping.Plus, I always switch to my primary word processor from wherever I am in other apps by pressing F1-that’s a Keyboard Maestro macro now, but I’ve been doing this since before Keyboard Maestro existed.Īpart from the core desire to turn Google Docs into a standalone app, I have several other requirements: (“Hi, my name is Adam, and I’m a tabaholic.”) As a result, I’ve always run Google Docs in a site-specific browser (SSB)-a utility that lets you turn a particular site or set of sites into a standalone app that has its own identity in the Dock, the App Switcher, and so on. That’s unacceptable for me since I often have multiple documents open along with way too many tabs for pages that I need to read, refer back to, or act on. Of course, Google Docs is a Web app, and by default, it would nestle in among all the other tabs in a Web browser. And when we migrated to our current WordPress-based content management system (see “ Next-Generation TidBITS Infrastructure in the Works,” 20 November 2017), we switched to doing all of our article writing and editing in Google Docs, which offers top-notch collaboration capabilities. During our BBEdit years, we switched the collaboration side to the Subversion version control system, essentially treating our text like code (see “ Wanted: Better Document Collaboration System,” 3 April 2006). When we used Nisus Writer Classic, we also relied on a fileserver running AppleShare over IP to collaborate on files using a classic IN (available for editing) and OUT (checked out by someone) folder/versioning/renaming scheme. Precisely which app we rely on for TidBITS has changed over the years, starting with Nisus Writer Classic, then BBEdit, and now Google Docs. My observatory has been running the one shown at the link below for a few years and it works flawlessly. You will need the appropriate GPS hardware for this. If you live in an area with poor internet connectivity, NTP for Windows has the ability to synchronize the system clock to a local GPSDO having a 1 PPS output. "Dead on" means that when I listen to WWV on an Icom R75 and watch the UTC Clock display, there is no perceptible offset, so the system clock stays accurate to better than perhaps a few tens of milliseconds. The PC clock stays dead on with what I hear from WWV. David Taylor maintains a very nice set of instructions (link below) for this utility. Meinberg Radio Clocks GmbH has released this as an open-source freeware utility that runs in the background as a service, not as an application. One solution is to synchronize the system clock with time servers traceable back to NIST.
